Features

Everything you need, on your machine.

A real chat client for Ollama, where every feature has its own animal to introduce it.

Owl

I'm Owl. I think before I answer: here is everything Lucania can do.

01 / Features

One feature, one animal.

Open a block: the animal behind the feature introduces itself, then the details follow.

100% local

I guard the door. Your conversations stay in a SQLite database on this computer, and nothing goes to the cloud.

Your conversations stay on your machine. Lucania sends nothing, except to your own Ollama servers.

Streaming and Markdown

OrcaStreaming
I answer as the tide comes in: every word shows up the moment it is generated, with clean Markdown rendering.

Answers are written while they are generated. Markdown rendering keeps lists, headings and code readable.

Thinking mode

OwlThinking mode
Turn me on and I think before I answer. My reasoning stays readable, folded above the answer.

Think mode is switched on or off per conversation, with the Thinking button in the input area. The thinking time is shown in the conversation. It works with the models that offer it.

Memory per model

RavenMemory
I remember what you tell me, and my memory is mine alone: each model keeps its own.

Each model has its own memory of facts, 500 characters at most per fact. They are given to it at the start of every conversation. You add, edit and delete them yourself, and you can let the model suggest facts to remember. Everything stays on your computer.

Organize and personalize

Organized conversations

FoxFolders
I file things the way you like: folders in your color, with their icon, and the essentials pinned on top.

Create folders and drag your conversations into them. Pick the color and icon of each folder. Pin, rename or move a conversation. They are grouped by date, and deleting a folder keeps its conversations.

13 themes

CatThemes
I change my coat on demand: thirteen themes so Lucania looks like you.

Pick your theme in Settings > Appearance. The choice is saved on the device.

French and English

DeerLanguages
I speak French and English, and I switch between them when you ask.

The app is available in French and English. You pick the language in Settings > Appearance.

Servers

Multiple Ollama servers

KodiakServers
I keep the list of your Ollama servers. You save several, and you switch on the one you need today.

Add a connection “On this computer” or “On another machine”. Lucania tests the connection and detects the installed models. You can save several connections and switch them on one by one.

Remote server and remote shutdown

BearRemote server
I fetch your server wherever it sits, through a WireGuard tunnel you manage. When you are done, I switch it off.

Lucania connects to Ollama on your machine or on a server you manage. Here is the outline of the guide in the repository. The addresses are examples: use the ones from your own tunnel.

  1. Install WireGuard

Install the official client on both machines: the one running Lucania and the one running Ollama.

  2. Create or import the tunnel

Create the configuration, or import the .conf file from the server administrator. Turn the tunnel on at both ends, then test with ping 10.0.0.2.

  3. Open Ollama to the tunnel

By default, Ollama listens on 127.0.0.1. On Windows, create the system variable OLLAMA_HOST with the value 0.0.0.0, then restart Ollama. In the firewall, allow port 11434 only from the tunnel.

  4. Add the connection

Check with curl http://10.0.0.2:11434/api/tags: a JSON reply lists the models. In Lucania, open Settings and add the server address as an Ollama connection.

For remote shutdown, run a small program on the remote machine that receives an HTTP request. In Settings > Remote shutdown, turn shutdown on for the connection, then enter the program URL, the HTTP method and the secret token. A “Shut down” button appears in the sidebar, and Lucania asks for confirmation.

02 / Under the hood

What makes Lucania run.

Ollama runs the models, memory keeps your facts, and the web stack uses no JavaScript framework.

The engine

Ollama

Ollama runs the language models, on your machine or on a server you manage. Lucania is its chat interface: you install Ollama, download the models you like, and Lucania connects to it.

  • On this computer or on a remote server
  • Several connections, switched on one by one
  • Installed models detected by Lucania

WolfLocal guardian
It does the heavy lifting, at home. I make sure nothing leaves, except to your own servers.

Memory

Each model remembers in its own way.

In Settings > Memory, you pick a model and manage its facts. They are given to it at the start of every conversation, and everything stays on your computer.

RavenMemory

  • One model, one memory

Facts are filed per model. A fact is 500 characters at most.

  • Given at the start

At the start of every conversation, the model receives its facts.

  • Optional extraction

The model can suggest facts to remember from your conversations. You also add, edit and delete facts yourself.

  • Switch on as you like

Memory is switched on per model and per conversation.

Getting better thanks to memory

The more facts the model remembers, the more its answers fit you: your projects, your tools, your preferences. Nothing is sent elsewhere to get there.

Obsidian

Memory builds on Obsidian: your facts stay readable notes, kept at home.

The tech stack

What the app repository contains, according to its README.

  • Astro 7

The base of the interface, server-rendered with the Node adapter.

  • Vanilla JavaScript

All the browser code, with no JavaScript framework.

  • Tailwind CSS v4

The styles, written as utility classes.

  • daisyUI 5

The interface components, built on Tailwind.

  • SQLite (node:sqlite)

The local database of your conversations, in a file on your disk.

  • Tauri v2

The shell of the desktop app for Windows.

  • WireGuard

The VPN tunnel you manage to reach a remote Ollama server.
